YC

Hi,

Not sure why the disk displaying in GUI (vea) shows red cross but there is no problem using command line eg: vxdisk.

Is there a way to eliminate the red cross in GUI?

Thanks in advance.

Your disk are fine.

Red cross in GUI should be gone now.

If not, please let us know exact VxVM version (pkginfo -l VRTSvxvm).

I remember a patch some time ago to fix GUI problem where disks are incorrectly shown as 'failing' or 'failed'.

Please let us know which OS and SF version?

Volume or disk with red X? Red X is normally seen on a Volume. Please post a screenshot of the GUI?

Extract from SF Afmin Guide:

Failure. The X symbol on a red
circle indicates that a serious
storage failure has occurred. Users
need to look at the source of the
problem and fix it as soon as
possible.

Best to look at OS system logs to see details of disk-related error.

OS: Solaris 10

SF: 5.0.28.0

Happen in both Volume and Disk, pls refer to attachment for screen shot. There is no error in OS system logs.

Can you provide output of "vxprint -g lmsora-dg -htr" and "vxdisk -o alldgs list"

You can see that two of the disks have a status of 'Failing'.

This could be caused by intermittent I/O problem to the disk.

If there are no hardware errors in /var/adm/messages (go back a couple of days - even to backup copies of messages file), you can reset the failing flag:

vxedit -g <diskgroup-name> set failing=off <disk_name>

Hi Marianne van den Berg,

Will permanently disable the alert?

It will clear the flag. If there is a REAL problem with the lun, the problem may re-appear.

Please read through this link: https://sort.symantec.com/public/documents/sf/5.0/solaris/html/vxvm_tshoot/ts_ch_hardwarerecovery_vm...

Best to investigate the reason. Check messages files.

Clear the flag if you are 100% sure that the lun is fine. In that case, the command will permanently clear the failing flag.

Hi,

Run the command but still not able to remove the red cross. The following is in /var/adm/message:

:

vxpal[2393]: [ID 702911 user.info] Allocator: INFO:File /etc/default/vxassist: Cannot open

Did you run the command as root? Please run 'vxdctl enable' followed by 'vxdisk -o alldgs list'. Please post output. PS: the vxassist message is not related to this issue.

As the server and the disks are in production, correct me that running both commands will not affect the server?

vxdctl enable will simply refresh disk info.

vxdisk list will simply 'list' disk info.

# vxdctl enable

# vxdisk -o alldgs list
