Legato Recovery To VXFS Hangs

While using Legato Recover tool to return the backup from tape to VXFS, the operation hangs. When we try to kill that recovery process the process hangs as if it is waiting for an IO call to finish. The system is RHEL 6 with SF 5.1 SP1 PR2 . This issue occured also on RHEL 5.5 with SF 5.1 SP1 RP2 . The file system becomes inresponsive when too much IO is made. We crash-dumped the system and send the core to backline engineer. The backline engineer explaained the hang was because of the Memory Lock Mechanism of RHEL.

RHEL wanted us to run the system with the debug kernel but the SF does not work with that kernel as the libraries and kernel level does not match the supported. When I return the backup to an EXT4 file system on the same system the recover command does not hang.

Has any one faced hangs without a trace in the syslog.

To eliminate the backup product, please test backups using other tools such as tar or cpio. Use a scratch tape for these test backups.

Netbackup has a 'filesystem' section in its OS compstibility list. Does Legato have something similar?
