Poll - Who is on veritas VxFS MP3RP1/MP3RP4 using Clariion and Bit Setting 4 (ALUA)

Gurminder_Moh1
Level 3

Trying to find out how many of you out there are using ALUA (bit setting 4) with clariion. If you are not using bit setting 4, what bit setting are you at (1?).

we have had so many issues with our clariion setup using ALUA , when doing clariion firmware upgrades, that I am begining to think we are the only ones running ALUA.

The clariion upgrades are supposed to be NDU (non dispruptive upgrades), but everytime we have tried in our development environment, we have lost VxFS filesystems.

We do not do anthying special on our end. We allow DMP to run the show, but do far DMP with ALUA has not worked out for us. I am now trying to get some data on how many of you run on bit setting 1, because we will try to go to bit setting 1 in the hopes it will solve our clariion upgrade issues.

checking the HCL for 5.0MP3 , NDUs are supported for all clariion arrays....

ftp://exftpp.symantec.com/pub/support/products/Foundation_Suite/283161.pdf

Not sure on bit setting but I reckon, ASL pages use to claim some modes.....

http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/292924.htm       (OLD document for 4.1 but settings can be confirmed with support)

As per above link:

Note: With the 4.1 release, Volume Manager supports EMC CLARiiON arrays using DMP for multi-pathing in the following modes.
- implicit A/P mode also known as auto-trespass mode
                    ( array setting FAILOVER MODE=2)
- Explicit A/P-F mode
                    ( array setting FAILOVER MODE=1)
Setting up the array in A/P-F mode is recommended in clustered configurations.

DOC for AIX as well

hope this helps...
