Rootmirror

Hi everbody,

hope that someone have a good solution for my problem :)
On a Solaris 9 System with veritas 4.1 installed, the rootmirror should be reinstalled with the hole OS and Veritas. Also there are a lot of DGs in the SAN Area which are attacht to that system. Do I need to detach, deport those DGs? The costumer would like to do this online, without any downtime.
Is it possible to do this online, without any downtime and if so, how?  Would really appreciate if some can help me, thanks

If your machine's root disk is encapsulated already, then mirroring it to a second disk can be done online, otherwise, the encapsulation of root disk itself will require 2 reboots.
Need:
  df -k
  vxprint -hrtg rootdg
  vxdisk -o alldgs list
prtvtoc for both root disk and mirror disk
if more detailed help is needed.

* Create a rootdg by encapsulating the primay disk into VxVM (format=sliced)
* Change the nvalias using eeprom
* U can wud need to reboot n check if the system boots via primay disk
* Once everything is fine confirmed - use vxrootmir & vxmirror to bring the second disk into rootdg
* U can wud need to reboot n check if the system boots via secondary disk

* Incase you need to patch Solaris server feel free to break the mirror & patch one disk confirm everything working fine. If YES - resync latest patch to second disk incase NO - please resync from second disk to primay disk

Veritas r0cks!

I hope this wud help to keep rootdg always online.

Cheers,
