Storage Foundation does not install simultaneously on multiple systems

I tried to install Storage Foundation on 2 Redhat EL 5.5 X86_64 systems, I specified 2 system names on which to install, everything went smoothly, and reported the installation was successful. But when I checked the installatioin, the software installed only on local system, nothing installed on the remote node.

Uninstalled the software on the first node, I tried to install from the other node, same issue, software only installed on the system where the installer was started.

I also tested, whatever I configure SSH (for no password) or not, nothing different. The installation summary file shows the installation is successful on both nodes.

I found a solution. When I used IP addresses instead of hostnames, the installation on both nodes succeeded as normal.

I also configured cluster, after then I checked the system names in main.cf, they are hostnames, not IP, looks good.

Thank you Gaurav.

Sounds very strange that installer reporting a successfull installation while nothing has been installed.

Very basic question first, is it possible that another server with same hostname exists in your network ? would suggest to confirm this thing, you can use nslookup to find the correct IP address or verify from the hosts file about the correct server.

What is the veritas version you are trying to install ?

Can you confirm if password less ssh was working to & fro for these two servers ?

attach the installation logs (summary & detail) to verify..

The SF version is 5.1sp1.

The name resolution is correct:

From first node:

I just tried to another installation, check the installed files:

Even I do not setup password less SSH, the installer still does not ask me the password of the remote node, this is unusual. BTW, no rsh available either.

Its absolutely strange, clearly installer is stating that it installed all the products sucessfully on all the nodes & it started succesfully too..

I will try to see around if any known issues like this..

can u also paste following from both the servers:

# cat /etc/redhat-release

# uname -a

yes, it's very strange. It seems the installer not probe the remote node at all and assumes successful.

rhat55-1# uname -a
Linux rhat55-1 2.6.18-194.el5 #1 SMP Tue Mar 16 21:52:39 EDT 2010 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Hello,

thats good to hear that you found solution...

however as suspected earlier this indicates that somehow installer is not able to resolve hostnames to IP (DNS resolution) .. would be worth to dig deeper in this to find the exact cause.

anyways.. happy holidays
