VxVM 3.5 Critical issue.. All dgs are disappeared..

Hi  All

Today after reboot VxVm was not coming up I did following
After reboot when VxVM didn’t come up  then I did given below steps
 
1)reboot the box

2) touch etc/vx/reconfig.d/state.d/install-db

3)vxinstall

  VxVM will use the following format to name disks on the host:

        <enclosurename>_<diskno>

  be changed according to the user requirements.

  Some examples would be:

        hitachi0_2      - second disk detected in enclosure 'hitachi0'

        enggdept_2      - second disk detected in enclosure 'enggdept'

        dgc1_1          - first disk detected in enclosure 'dgc1'

        jbod_1          - first disk detected in the jbod category

  For non-public loop disks (Ex. FC disks directly connected to the host

  or through hubs), you could choose to use the c#t#d#s# naming format.

If you have saved 'vxprint -m' output of your diskgroup, you will be able to recreate the volumes with vxmake.

Let us know if you have such saved output.

problem is 3.5 manadatorily needs rootdg to be present, if rootdg is not there vxvm won't start....

So do you remember what disks were part of rootdg initially ? You need find that out (or find some free disk) & initialize rootdg, than only vxvm will be starting..

any old outputs saved would be helpful..

Menu: VolumeManager/Install/QuickInstall

  The c1t4d0 disk is your Boot Disk.  You can not add it as a new

  disk.  If you encapsulate it, you will make your root file system

  and other system areas on the Boot Disk into volumes.  This is

  required if you wish to mirror your root file system or system

  swap area.

& from vxdisk list output it looks that c1t4d0 is in failed state ..... u need to check the disk or else add some spare disk to rootdg so that rootdg is up & imported.....

I think we need to remove the disk from rootdg.
Is there anyway to restore it.

Fixed the issue ,
here is what I did.

1)Remove the disk from rootdg control
2)create newdgs as per vxdisk output
3)recover the volume from stored configuration in explorer file
vxmake -g <dgname> -d <Dgconfig.out>

Dgconfig.out file is available when we take explorer. (/Explorer /Disks/vxvm/Diskgroups/

4)Start all the volumes manually.
5)Reboot the system.
