Can anybody would help me with the below,
I was asked to connected some LUN to our HP-UX servers(11.11i) which we have founcation suite (VXVM3.5/VXFS3.5)----It can only installed with this version for the HP-UX11.11i. I was told not need to install VXVM because HP-UX11i already has VXVM3.5 installed. So I only install VXFS3.5.
however, after I installed VXVM3.5, I found I couldn't create disk group, so I can't go to the next step to create veritas volume.
Under HP-UX11.11I, I did
# vxinstall,
after than when I try to create a dg, I got error like below:
# vxdg init opl_vxdg1 vxdg1_vxdisk4=c4t0d4
vxvm:vxdg: ERROR: Disk group opl_vxdg1: cannot create: vxconfigd is currently disabled
And I check the VX daemon, I found vxconfigd may has problem like below:
# ps -ef |grep vx
root 32 0 0 20:13:04 ? 0:00 vxfsd
root 1667 1 0 20:15:26 ? 0:01 /opt/VRTSob/bin/vxsvc -r /etc/vx/isis/Registry
root 2559 0 0 20:16:55 ? 0:00 vxiod
root 2561 1 0 20:16:55 ? 0:00 vxconfigd -k -r reset -m disable
What is my problem and how I fix it.
Thanks for your help, appreciate in advanced.

vxvm 3.5 mandatorily needs a rootdg, here we see that you don't have rootdg in place, first I would prefer to is get a rootdg in place with one or multiple disks & then fix rest.
have a look at this post & see if this helps:

vxconfigd is running in mode "disable".
Try running "vxconfigd -k -m enable" - this kills (-k) current daemon and starts vxconfigd in enable mode (-m).

# vxdisk list #vxdisk work at this time when "vxconfig" is in disable mode.

You say that you did run vxinstall?
What were the choices that you made during this process? Did you choose a disk to be encapsulated or initialized as rootdg?

Hi
As others pointed out, the older versions of VxVM require that one or more disks are placed into a unique diskgroup named rootdg. This should have been done as part of the VxVM installation/configuration (vxinstall).
Once you have a rootdg, you can create other disk groups. One limitatio is that rootdg is not as portable as other disk groups - i.e it cannot be deported an imported on an other server.
is this a fresh install/configure of VxVM or has it been running for some time ?
cheers

Thanks you all Gaurav/Tony/Marianne and Mike for quick fix, it is the rootdg issue. I have SF4.X/5.X in my shop that running Solaris/RHEL which not has the issue. Great appreciate for you quick fix.
have a great time.
