vxdg import failing with cloned disk

Hello,

Experiencing a problem where I deported a diskgroup in order for it to be refreshed by an EMC BCV (clone) - on import it produced an error.  Solaris 10 (sparc), vxvm 5.1

I don't understand why it didn't import all the disks.

Now where it complains about faile was:emcpower154s2..(etc), that is what it was called on the other host wher the snap came from.

What I'm not showing here is the 20 other diskgroups on this server, so a reboot is a last option.

Does the original dg of which the snap was taken include other disks not snapped?

Is it a snap within diskgroup or you are using Diskgroup Split & join feature ?

Did you clone all disks on the EMC? Means: is it possible that you increased the EMC configuration by some disks since the last sync? It looks like some of the EMC disks are not sync'd completely, so some private regions are missing. Saw this error on a customer site with exacly the same picture just a couple of weeks ago.

Background was: in the disk group the private regions of the disks contained descriptions of all disks in the disk group. That's the reason why vxdg import could find the disks (eg. clone of emcpower146s2 maybe is emcpower340c, the EMC can identify this via the disk code eg. SYM5222_0760). that for the physical level.

But some of the disks were included into the clone group, but the software did not start the sync for this disks (the sync was startet disk by disk, not on the clone group). And some disks were not sync'd. And the private region did not arrive on the clone disk.

Please confirm that the private region is arrived on the failed disks. Just get the offsett of the private region from another disk (Ihope the disks have the same size and layout and disk version and ...) or even the BCV master and try to read the disk blocks from the clone. If you cannot find a private region there check if the disks are really cloned (logs in os, EMC box...)
