The vxedit utility sets and changes attributes for Veritas Volume Manager (VxVM) configuration records that do not depend upon volume usage types.

The set option allows you to set a field within a replicated volume group (RVG), rlink, volume, plex, subdisk, disk media, or disk group record in the selected disk group. The set option changes the attributes for the records with specified names and the records that match the pattern string, if one is specified. The attribute names specify the field to set within the selected records. You can specify multiple attributes with a single invocation of the vxedit set command.

In addition to vxedit, you can also use the vxdisk, vxdg, and vxvol commands to set attributes on the corresponding objects.

Common vxedit set commands include:

  • vxedit set failing - Sets or clears the disk failing flag. If the failing flag is set for a disk, then the disk space is not used as free space or used by the hot-relocation facility.
  • vxedit set reserve - Sets or does not set aside a disk from use in a disk group for space allocation.
  • vxedit set nohotuse - Excludes or does not exclude a disk from use by hot-relocation when free space other than spare space is required.
  • vxedit set spare - Adds or removes a disk from the pool of hot-relocation spares.

Common vxedit set use cases include:
