SFW HA and VCS 6.1: Configuring communication link between a VMwareDisks agent and a vCenter Server

In a VMware environment that uses non-shared VMware disks, the Symantec Cluster Server (VCS) "VMwareDisks" agent performs the disk import and deport operations during a failover.

In the event of a failure, the VMwareDisks agent communicates with the underlying ESX host to deport and import the disks. With the 6.1 release, VCS introduces support for configuring the communication link with a vCenter Server instead of the ESX host.

The Symantec High Availability Configuration wizard configures the VMwareDisks agent-ESX host communication link while configuring application monitoring. By default, the communication link is configured with the underlying ESX host. To configure the communication link with a vCenter Server, you must modify the "ESXDetails" attribute of the VMwareDisks agent.

For information about configuring a communication link between the VMwareDisks agent and a vCenter Server, see:

This quick reference guide provides the following details:

  • How the VMwareDisks agent works
  • Requirements for configuring a communication link with a vCenter Server
  • Procedure to modify the ESXDetails attribute
