The first task for configuring application monitoring using ApplicationHA (for VMware) or the Symantec High Availability Solution is to install the Symantec High Availability Console on a dedicated virtual machine.
The Symantec High Availability Console installer registers a plugin for the vCenter Server. After the installation completes successfully, the following interfaces appear in the vSphere Client:
Symantec High Availability tab
Primary interface for monitoring applications on a virtual machine
Symantec High Availability dashboard
Primary interface for monitoring applications on a VMware cluster or datacenter
Option to install Symantec High Availability guest components (VCS/SF HA/ApplicationHA)
Primary interface for installing the guest components (Storage Foundation and High Availability Solution, Symantec Cluster Server, and ApplicationHA) on a single virtual machine or the virtual machines within a VMware cluster or datacenter
Symantec High Availability Home View
Primary interface for configuring the Symantec High Availability Solution in a VMware Site Recovery Manager (SRM) environment and managing licenses
Even though the first task for configuring application monitoring is to install the Symantec High Availability Console, you do not have to install it to deploy ApplicationHA or the Symantec High Availability Solution.
However, if you do not install the Console, you cannot perform the following operations:
For the application monitoring operations, you use any one of the following methods:
https://VMNameorIP:5634/vcs/admin/application_health.html?priv=ADMIN
where
VMNameorIP is the virtual host name or its IP address.
VOM is an independent centralized management console that helps you manage various Symantec Storage Foundation and High Availability products. It is not integrated with the vSphere Client.
Note: You can perform these operations on a per virtual machine basis. You cannot perform them on multiple virtual machines from the selected VMware cluster or datacenter.
For information about performing the operations through the various interfaces that are added in the vSphere Client, see:
