I am assisting a client with a Windows Server 2008 R2. We have recently installed a new tape device with existing software Symantec Backup Exec System Recovery 2010 (version 9.0.4.42294). The tape device is not being recognized by the software. I have read that I may be able to use something called 'tapeinst.exe', however, it is not on the CD or in the directory C:\Program Files (x86)\Symantec\Backup Exec System Recovery. I have looked for a downloadable version but cannot seem to find one. Have reinstalled the software, still not working.
What is the easiest way to install the tape device for this product? (Backup Exec System Recovery 2010 (version 9.0.4.42294)).
Thank you in advance.

In short, Backup Exec System Recovery (BESR) will not backup to tape, as it will not recognize the tape 'sequential file' format. You can use BESR to create backups to a location such as a NAS, then use BackupExec 2012 to backup the BESR backup files for offsite safekeeping. You can also Windows backup similarly.
