Advanced Server Suite Qs

Hey all,

Recently purchased the livestate recovery advanced server suite.
I also have the LRAS implementation guide and the Recovery Manager implementation guide.

However I cant seem to get this product off the ground. All im trying to do is set up take a RP of my servers

On my Livestate server. I have installed Livestate recovery Manager 6.0 as well as Livestate advanced server.

So what I did was found the name of one of my other servers and "deployed livestate" this installed an agent on to my server. This didn't seem to do to much so once I had the server under managed computers. I right clicked and selected the "Install/Update Livestate Recovery" then "Livestate Recovery advanced Server -> Agent Only"

Now when I go into Livetate recovery advanced server and add the server in it cant connect to it. #

I have also install the "Recovery Advanced Server -> Full install"
rebooted and tried to take a RP but it still cant see it, when I search I can see 3 other test PCs but no server.

Any ideas what im doing wrong?

Does anyone have a step by step guide for walking someone through the whole RP creation? Im clearly lost

Thanks

Hi!

Have a look to the security configuration tool in the menu.
To access the remote agent from the Livestate Recovery AS console you should make sure the user used on the server has the rights to access the agent installed on the remote pc.

hope it helps...let me know.

Thanks for replying Roberto,

Under the security configuration tool I added in the Livestate user, I also added the livestate user to the domain admins group and added that in aswell.

When I try and "add a computer" and do a search under "domain" "Show agent installed" I cant find the server I installed the agent on

if I search for "Show agent not installed" I cant find the server straight away....

I installed the Agent though the LSR Manager 6.0 but while I can see the agent on the server and LSR M shows the Server as "Managed" its still shows the "livestate recovery version" as "none" ?? very confusing stuff

I have now updated the Software and I am currently going to try and install and use the LSR M 6.0 to install the "Advanced Server Agent 6.10"

This is the end of my Error log to see if it helps. I have restarted the myserver manully now to see if it has any effect.

Tell me is it possible to restart some services rather than having to restart the actual server every time?

Thanks Roberto,

I have checked and all seems fine im using a domain admin account on both servers but it doesnt work it gives me a rights issue.

Im just after getting out our Emergency Account details and trying them but still to no avail it simply wont work.. The funny thing is if I use the "local Admin account" that we have for all PCs I can install the agent for windows fine but I cant install the Recovery Agent at all, one works then other fails.

Im going to try and use the Cd to install the agent would that work do you think?

Or can I get some more details on why its failing with my domain accounts?
(I have checked and made sure both Servers are on the domain)

is traffic light visible on the SysTray?

try uninstalling the agent on the client by using the 'datool -x' from a commandline as described on the SYMC support site DOC ID 2002111105033360

Then try pushing it out again just to make sure you are starting with a clean client. if there is an error with the install, the client is sometimes left in a strange state. After you push the agent out again, see if the log files in the _integra give you any help.

Thanks Guys.

I have solved the issue somewhat. The problem I "think" is due to an error with Windows Installer (or one of its components) on the server that I didnt know about.

I had reinstalled Windows Installer which worked fine, but I think the problem is with one of the underlying componants which seems to have become corrupt.

What I have done now, is installed the Advanced Server Package off the CD on to one of my servers, which installed fine and also let me create a RP to my test server, which I then ported to Vmware and mounted the image so far its looking great.

If I might be so bold to ask a final question (we have the full Server Suite) :)

Can I take a RP of one of my servers and then set it up so that it it constantly undates that same RP when chages are made? so if one on my servers went down I would have a recovery point of that server that I could use to image that server again?

Adrian,

You can set it up to make a Base Recovery Point, and then make incrimental backups, say once per hour, and so if it crashes, you would only be at the most part 1 hour off.

Thanks,
