BESR 2010 Creating Recovery Point 95%

Triven
Level 4

Hi all,

I have BESR2010 (Version 9.0.5.45729) on 5 servers all Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise

On 3 of the servers the BESR 2010 backup job sits at 95% Updating History. The only way to get this to work is to restarted the services and re-run the job. this will then run fine. But i dont want to have to do this every day.

I have tried the guide on the link below but do not these servers do not have a Program Data folder

http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH62474

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Can you try the following workaround (taken from http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH139416) to see if it helps:

  1. RPAM.dll can be unregistered which will also disable the ability to mount a recovery point. If this workaround is used, RPAM.dll can be re-registered when the recovery point needs to be mounted or opened in GRO (Granular Restore Option). To unregister RPAM.DLL, open a command prompt and use the following command: RegSVR32.exe /U C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\rpAccess\Rpam.dll

Once the DLL has been successfully unregistered, the Backup Exec System Recovery service (VProSvc) will need to be restarted. To re-register, remove /U from the above command.

Hi Chris,

I have tried this unsuccessfully.

Would this issue normally happen on every backup or randomly? the reason i ask is i am backing up 7 servers, some work fine, others every now and then sit at the '95% Updating History'. There is no pattern e.g. one server will work fine for 6 days then get the 95% issue, then will be fine for couple days then 95% again other servers some are completely successful 100% of the time others get the 95% 30% of the time.

I would have throught there would be a hotfix for this by now?

Thanks

Tom

Tom,

I would recommend you open a support case so that we can investigate this further.

Have you considered upgrading to SSR 2011 or 2013?

Hi Chris,

Thanks for replying so quickly.

I will open a case shortly, Thanks

Out of curiosity are either of the above versions a free upgrade?

Many Thanks

Tom,

It depends what level of support you have with us. If you contact customer care, they should be able to answer this for you:

Hi all,

Do you know if there has been a hotfix or patch out for this yet.

I found this document but there have been no updates on it since 2010 even though its said to revert back to it for updates periodically.

http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH139416

I dont get this issue as much anymore but its still a problem. I don't have support other than warranty so i've not been able to speak to Symantec.

Just wanted to see if there were any specific hotfixes out for this. The software is all up to date otherwise.
