Product version: Symantec Backup Exec System Recovery 2010
Sever 2003 R2, SP2. It's a Share point DataBase Server.
RAM: 4GB. Hard drive: HD_C: 10/52. HD_D: 31/220 (free space/ total space in GB)
note: Symantec Backup exec Remote Agent is also install in this server. since this server is very important, so I did a double backup, one is for a domian backup(tape) via agent, another one is local image backup via Symantec Backup Exec System Recovery 2010.
Here is my Long story:
Symantec Backup Exec System Recovery 2010 run well for the frist few weeks.
Then it starts to hang at 5% while doing bakcup. After doing research I found out that the issue is cause by Service Volume Shadow Copy. This service is set to manual by default, but while backup is running in about 5%, it will start automatically. So I stop it when it auto starts and my backup completely run to 100%.
I thought I solve the problem. but, on the other day while the backup scheduled to run ( I write a batch file to stop VSS just 2 minutes after backup begined), it failed randomly(i forget it's 10s% or 20s%).
Here is the error message: Error E0BB0184. There is not enough free space to maintain snapshot image on Volume C( or D)
then I did backup separately for C and D, they both have same issue while doing auto backup( no matter in a new task or old, or to a new destination).
Finally, I found out that while I manually run a backup, it has no problem at all.
At this point, I have no clue. I have been staring debug this issue for two weeks and I cannot do the backup manually all the time. PLEASE HELP! Thanks!

Hm, one thing might be that BESR, according to Symantec Support and technote http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH65770&actp=search&viewlocale=en_US&searchid=1289461492325 BESR likes to have some free diskspace before it could backup a volume.

Mark, thanks for your reply.
I may not be able to get 24% free space, but I will try to defragment my drives and see how much space I can save.
However, I can complete the backup while starting manually. so is it still a dsickspace problem?
Thanks!
