I am currently evaluating different backup solutions for a single Windows 8 PC, personal use only. Symantec System Recovery Desktop Edition looks interesting to me, but for me it does not restore hardlinks, symbolic links and junctions correctly.
I did a backup of a directory that contains various flavours of links to files and directories also contained in the backed-up directory, but unfortunately:
- Symbolic links and junctions to directories have been ignored completely by the backup.
- During restore, symbolic links were restored as isolated empty files, and
- hardlinks to the same file were restored as independent files instead of several links to the same file.
Is there a way in this software to enable correct handling of these kinds of links during backup and restore? Unfortunately, I could not find any hint on this in the documentation.
