Hello all,
I'm seeing an error in my event logs and am not sure if I have a problem.
We have SBS2003 and Symantec System Recovery 2011.

My understanding of SSR v2011 is that it used it's own VSS engine for backups. I see entries for Symantec SymSnap in the logs as seen above.
My questions is whether the backups could be corrupted even though the software is saying they successeded given the timing of the VSS error. Anyone have any thoughts on this?
Thanks,
-John

Have you enabled the verify option in your backup job ? Even if you have you can try to mount a recovery point if this is successfull then the recovery points are ok and you can ignore the error message from my point of view.

Under job settings is VSS Enabled , also when was the last time the server was rebooted ..
check the writer status using VSSADMINLIST WRITERS

Hello chip,
Go to Run or manage backup -> Edit settings -> on the "options" console -> go to "Advanced"
Check if "perform full VSS backup" option is enabled or disabled.
Please refer : http://www.symantec.com/docs/HOWTO13635
Please update us , to get this resolved.

Hello all,
Thanks for the responses. Here's the answers:
- Verify is ON and SSR is reporting that all drives are successfully backed up every night.
- The server hasn't been rebooted since this error showed up. I should be able to do that this weekend.
- I've tried to get a VSSAdmin List Writers job to run right after the job ends. (The job ends at about 3am so I've had to Task Sched a bat file to run the command and guess what time it will finish.) I've had it run within a minute and haven't had any error messages listed.
- The Option: Perform full VSS backup is NOT checked. (Is this a better way to run the backups? Should it be checked?)
Thanks,
-John

Give the VSS option a try and keep us posted.

Did you get the VSS option enabled ? Does it work now?
Usually the VSS is checked for Domain controllers and database servers.
Symantec Backup Exec System Recovery integrates with Microsoft Volume Shadow
Copy Service (VSS) to automate the process of backing up VSS-aware databases
like production Exchange 2003, transaction logs on Exchange 2003, and Windows
2003 Domain Controller.
