How to move 9.1 to new computer

I have Backup Exec / Veritas 9.1. We have several components installed.

We want to move this software to a new computer, We do not want to loose all the backup jobs that we have.

I have seem mention of a document that discusses this but becasue its and old version I cannt find the document.

Has anyone done this and does anyone know where the document is to do this.

I have read one on version 10. It looks daunting?

Thanks.

Refer to the following link to one of the old forum post:

https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/moving-be-another-physical-server

If you decide to go for new installation then you may also refer to the following technotes to copy the Catalogs and to move backup jobs frm one Media server to another:

http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH24628 : How to import catalogs into a Backup Exec 9.x for Windows Servers installation

http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH24360 : How to copy jobs, selection lists, and job templates between servers with VERITAS Backup Exec (tm) 9.x for Windows Servers

mm unfortunetely the first link seems to talk about using the Admin Plus Pack Option, which I dont think we have. I did try right clicking on the job and saw "copy to media servers", but it was grayed out, I asume because its not installed? I asume it has to be bought and I doubt that Semantec will sell it to us becasue we have old software. Strangly web pages that could have helped us seem to be unavailable. Asuming that we have all migrated to a newer version.

We do have, an sql component, exchange component, open file component. Who knew we needed more than that?

The Second document talks about "importing catalogs ", Im not sure what is in a catalogs but IM asuming that if I dont do the first thing with the APPO that the second will not work anyway, or it will only be a partial fix?

As with so many software products it always seems like engeneers (or more like marketers) dont make it easy to move from one machine to another. (just try a bare metal restore of anything to a new computer)

Im a little stumped now.

Here is the technote which explains why the "Copy to Media Server" option is grayed out and what you can do to resolve this issue

http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH44368 : When attempting to copy a selection list, policy or backup job from one Media server to another Media server, the option for 'Copy to other media servers' is grayed out.

I think this option will really help you to copy all the jobs to the new server.

Whats you can do is install BE 9.1 on the new server and then using the above option you can copy all the jobs in the new server. Then you can also copy all the Catalogs as per the technote to the new server. The only thing that you would be missing is the Backup to Disk folder if you have created any and the Media sets which you can easily re-create it and assign to the required jobs.

Let me know if you have any further query so that I can help you.

Sorry I was away on vacation.

The problem i see is that on the tec article Tech24360 it says i need the Admin Plus Pack Option APPO, I dont think we have this software.

Am I right in asuming this is an additional package I need to install and most likely buy?

Thanks.
