How to recovery from external SATA and USB drives?

I have a couple of external SATA and USB 2.0 connection drives that I store the images to. When using the Norton Ghost 12 or 14 recovery CD, those external SATA and USB drives are not showing up. Any idea how I can restore my OS images that are store in external SATA and USB drives?

Once in the recovery environment, open a command prompt from the analyze menu option, use the diskpart command to rescan and list the disks that are available. Once seen, if a drive letter wasn’t assigned to the drive, go back to disk part, select the disk & then the partition and use the assign command to give the external SATA and/or USB drive a drive letter.
