Can i use SIM update manager to get to (10.0.1.41708)  or do i have to blow away the whole thing  and re-install the new ssr 2011 SP1 ?

As per my previous comments on your other thread, use SIM to update to SP1.

You do NOT have to blow everything away and start again.
