I get a notice that my current back-up failed to back up RETools(*:\). In the set up it treats RETOOLS as a disk that needs to be backed up along with C drive etc. I don't know what RETOOLS is or if I need it to back up. It will back up correctly several times in a row but then I will get the failed message again. I'm a home user with limited knowledge. Any help?

Can you please provide the exact error message and/or the UMI code for this failure?

The only message I get is that the scheduled back up of RETOOLS(*:\) was missed. I do not know what RETOOLS is or if it is necessary to have it included in my list to back up. The program automatically included it in my back up list of drives. Thanks

Sounds like Windows Recovery Environment:
https://technet.microsoft.com/en-GB/library/hh825173.aspx
If SSR auto-includes this partition when you select volume C for backup, you need to back it up (it's obviously a critical volume).
What errors are shown in the below log file when backup fails?
C:\ProgramData\Symantec\SYMANTEC SYSTEM RECOVERY\LOGS\Symantec System Recovery.log.txt
