Incremental backup information

Hello,
I am currently testing BESR and incremental backups.
I would like to be informed on one point: After a first backup, my first incremental weighs about 8 MB, while no change was made.
I make a minor change in a Wordpad file 80MB, and my next incremental weighs 11 MB.

How does this kind of backup work? Is there a technical paper on this subject?

i think the backupdata gets compressed in any way. you can also choose a level for it.

Indeed, the compression has played a role on the file size.
But I have the file size without any incremental changes to be elucidated. Do we know what it contains (about 20MB uncompressed)? Is this normal?
