New to SSR - cannot add second machine

Hello - I have two windows 7 machines. I have Symantec System Recovery installed and running on one machine, with backups configured to a USB attached RD 1000.  I have installed a second copy on the other machine - but I cannot add it to the list of computers on the first machine to begin backing up files on that machine as well. They are both networked via workgroup.....is there a setting I have to configure on the second machine in the OS to add it?

Thank you

OK, now it's clear to me: When you're logged on to the first computer, does this account and password also exist on the second computer ? Do you get prompted for a password ? Please also check the firewall settings:

are you receiving any errors ?

Please try disabling firewall add exceptions .

I hope you are aware BESR / SSR is not like BEWS , it allows only connecting to a remote machine via console ...

If you mean file and folder backups, you can only configure them from the machine where the files you want to backup are stored.

Thank you for your answers......when trying to add the second machine to the list of computers on the first machine, I am prompted for a network access user name and password....I have tried computer name, user account name and it will not connect.  I can see the second computer on the network from the first computer and access standard shared files - I just cannot add this second computer to the list on the first.....

@ Markus - I am referencing Section 9 of the user's manual, backing up remote computers from your computer - I have two machines, each with a licensed copy of SSR 2011....

But what type of backup do want to create ? A volume based or a file and folder backup ?

File and folder based......just trying to back up a couple of folders on the second machine....

OK, afaik you can only configure the file and folder based backup on the machine where the files reside, so you'd need to schedule the backup from the console being logged on to the second machine.

Here is the link to the manual:

....page 130 describes what I am trying to do - am I understanding this correctly?

Each machine has it's own account and password (different on each one)....I will look at the links you provided.....I am running Kaspersky AV software and I thought it may have been an issue - but I totally disabled it and still no go...Yes, I am prompted for an account and password on the machine I am trying to add - but no matter what I enter does not work - the computers are part of the same workgroup.  Even tried WORKGROUP\ACCOUNT NAME ......still no go - that is why I was wondering if this is a Windows 7 issue.....I will check back in a couple of days when I am onsite.......

OK - I got it - it was the Windows Firewall that was blocking it.....I add the Symantec program to allow it through and then I could connect......however, couldn't send the files (folders) I wanted backed up on the second machine directly to the USB connected RD1000 on the first machine.  What I did was create a folder on the first machine and backed up the files there using SSR on the second machine....then I added the desktop folder to the list of files to be backed up on SSR on the first machine to the RD1000.

Thank you for your guidance :)
