Questions on offsite copy of BESR8.5

ArunGupta

Does the offsite copy feature feature of BESR8.5 uses the system resources of target node (node to be backed up)  twice while making the offsite copy? To be more precise does BESR 8.5 reads the data twice from the node to be backed up to create two images one on primary storage and second one at offsite location as a copy of primary backup. Can someone expain in bit details the offsite copy functionality?

It seems that the Offsite copy feature can make copy to an FTP server located in ouside boundary of network. Any suggestion how can we implement this data transfer to an offsite location across the firewall without compromising any security requirements?

The offsite copy is just a copy of the recovery point so, no, it does not use up system resources twice. The offsite copy is triggered once the recovery point is created.

As for FTP, this might help?

Chris,

Its not clear from this link whether we can use SSL for the FTP transfer. Any idea if this issue is already resolved?

Arun

At the moment, offsite will not work if SSL is enabled. I think this may be changing at some point in the future but for now you must disable SSL in order for the offsite copy to work.

I understand that  the offsite copy is made from the recovery point.  Now, my next question is:

Is the offsite copy performed by the agent or by the Manager console? I require this information to define the access rules to enable the data flow for the offsite copy. Depending on the answer to this question access rules need to be defined to allow either the agent or manager console to reach the offsite backup location.

The agent does all the work for the backup and offsite copy.

Thanks!

Another question: My backup solution requires both BESR8.5 and BE12.5 applications. Can I Install manager consoles for both applications on one server?
