Recovery from a Dynamic disk

Hi All, I still haven't been able to get LSR (6.02) working to recover a server to new hardware... :o(... I think my problem stems from the fact that the original boot drive is Dynamic.

I was just wondering if anybody has been able to recover a server to new hardware (with Restore Anyware) from an original server with a dynamic disk??? And if so, can you please tell me the secret.. er I mean process!!!

Cheers, Stephen

Stephen,

You should be able to do one of two thing:

1> Run the restore to a new drive on a different server with the RAO checked and it will restore as basic, and then once in windows convert it to Dynamic.

or

2> Put the drive in a working machine, create a blank formatted Dymanic drive. Put it in the server you are going to restore to, and then restore the image with RAO. This will restore as a Dynamic disk.

Either way should allow you to restore to a different machine.

Thanks,

RAO = Restore Anywhere Option.

This is the feature that causes the product to autodetect the correct HAL, mass storage controller, operating system kernel files, etc when restoring an image to different hardware from which it was captured.

Thanks.
