Regarding Symantec System Recovery Hardware Compatibility from IBM (Blade Servers to System X)

Dear All,

I have a one concern regarding the deployment of Symantec System Recovery in our environment we have the following hardware and software in our environment.

Servers:a.IBM Blade Center H with 14 IBM HS22 blades in it.

b.X Series Sever model IBM X3850 servers

Backup software :We use IBM TSM (Tivoli Storage Manager) 6.3

Tape Library : IBM TS-3500

Storage : Storage Expansion    IBM EXN4000
              Storage Controller A   IBM N6270

We assign LUN in Storage for Servers and we configure the backup policy that move backup directly to the Tape library

If we deploy Symantec System Recovery 2011/2013 in this environment then can we

1.Do the restoration of the Operating System that is on Blade Server hardware to IBM system X hardware successfully. I am concern with the Hardware Compatibility issue because of their architecture difference .

2.What precaution that have to take into account after when we restore the operating system with Symantec System Recovery 2011 regarding Tivoli Storage Manager functionality how can we restore it's proper funtionality.

3.Can we Restore the Blade server Symantec system recovery image on VM in  ESX server.

Regards

  1. This should work - the restore anyware feature of SSR should take care of this.
  2. No idea about this. You may need to contact IBM for any issues you encounter.
  3. Yes. You can use the P2V feature to convert from physical to virtual format.

Hope that helps.
