Hello everyone,
I wonder if it is possible to backup a MBR style disk with System Recovery, partition the disk GPT style and restore it form the previously taken backup.
I only know it for sure when it's a boot partition. If it doesn't work. What is the reason?
Thanks in advance!

Hi,
I found that myself, already. But that didn't answer my question.
Also I have found this:
http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH128386
Which sais this:
Note: UEFI computers use GPT-style disks. MBR-style disk data cannot be restored to GPT-style disk, and vice versa.
Which at least suggests that is is not possilble. I would be also interested in understanding why that is the case.

Hi,
In case of UEFI machine, the BCD database and other boot files reside on EFI system partition which can be created only on GPT disk. In addition, Microsoft Reserved partition (MSR) of 128 is created after EFI system partition which is hidden and not shown in diskmgmt. The way disk partitions are referred in UEFI mode is different than Legacy BIOS mode due to which restore of UEFI system partitions on legacy MBR type BIOS and vice versa is not currently supported.
However, in case of data volume (non boot disk), restore of image of GPT data volume to MBR data drive and vice versa should work.
-Thanks,
