Hi

I have WIndows server 2003 with SEPM installed runing on Hyper-v,i need to move the machine to an Esxi server and decided to backup and restore the server with SSR 2011.Which options should be selected during the restore.Single "C" partition exists on the server

Restore Anywhere - select

set active drive       - select

restore original disk signature ??? The  drive letter should remain the same and i will recover to a blank hard drive

  • Disk signatures are included in Windows Server 2003
  • Typically this option is selected if either of the following situations are true

Your computer's drive letters are atypical

You are restoring a data recovery point to a blank hard drive.

As best practice it is not recommend enabling the disk signature restore option when re-targeting an OS image to dissimilar hardware

restore master boot record - do not select

The Restore Original Disk Signature should not be selected for the System Drive. It is to be selected for the additional Data Drive if you have.

The OS will take care of the Drive Letter assignment after the restore.

Select the following options for the C:\ :

  • Set Drive Active
  • Restore Master Boot Record

Restore Anyware should be selected as we are moving to a dissimilar hardware.
