Restore on different hardware

Hello folks -

Is it true that with System Restore, you can take a snapshot of one Server, and then deploy that snapshot on another server that is totally different hardware wise from the server on which the snapshot was taken?

In the description of System Restore, it states that restores can be performed on dissimilar hardware? But I am not sure how that is going to work.

My first server is a Gateway server with no RAID configuration, and my new server is a Dell PowerEdge with RAID 1.

Thanks for your help.

YES! It is true.

We tested this with Live State Recovery and Restore Anywhere option (which is now included in Backup Exec System Recovery) and it works! It is amazing...

Anyway, to test it with trial version that can be downloaded from Symantec's web site you need trial license file to enable Restore Anywhere function. You can get trial license file from your Symantec partner.

Best regards,
Vladimir
