SSR 2011, How to Backup Virtual Machines

Hi,

I'm using SSR 2011 on Windows Server 2008 R2, 64-bit. I'm using it as the storage location for all the backup image files from the other servers in the Domain. The OS is on a 150GB partion (C:) & the storage of the image files reside on the 5.3TB (E:) partition. Both partitions reside on a RAID 50 array.

The virtual machines also reside on the E: drive in a folder named "Hyper-V". I have successful backups in one backup job of the entire C: & E: drives. One virtual machine is running & two are not started yet. No VM's contain SSR 2011 or any agents.

I've read all the user manual docs, Symantec articles and I'm still a little confused. For example (and testing) if I wanted to restore a corrupted VM in the future, do I have to restore the entire restore point backup of the C: & E: drives? Or just restore the "Hyper-V" folder?

Thanks.

I also run a similar environment and in out testbed I used the backup of to extract the "Hyper-V" folder to restore the VMs.
