SSR backup to multiple hard drives

I would like to establish a backup schedule that will backup to external hard drive 'A' daily for week one.  Then for week two, backup to external hard drive 'B'.

For week three, go back to external hard drive 'A', for week four external hard drive 'B', etc. etc. etc.

Thanx,

GeorgeK

I hope that this is not too much of a newbie question.

On most usb devices such as thumb drives, you must 'eject' the drive or stop it.  This is not possible with a usb hard disk drive.

Can I just power down & disconnect the usb cable?

Hi

If you want to use mutiple drives you will need to define seperate jobs
Refer to
http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH158668
http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH130830
It talks about the reason why we recommend to use one drive per job

Finally about your question,

Can I just power down & disconnect the usb cable?

Yes if they are not getting ejected then yes you may do that because just plugging out the cable may damage the disk ...

Hope that helps

Hello George ,

You  can use external Drive "A" and "B" by swapping the same , by creating a Independent recovery point set kind of Backup , make sure you use a Unique Drive letter for both the drives and SSR considers it has the same destination.

The better option is to use an Offsite copy, have a permanent primary destination and create an offsite copy , you can now unplug the offsite and take out of office and plug in again whenever required

Please refer : How Offsite Copy works - http://www.symantec.com/docs/HOWTO48460

About using external drives as your offsite copy destination - http://www.symantec.com/docs/HOWTO48461

Hope this helps
