Symantec SSR Backup by IP address instead of Hostname

I have several Windows systems in two floors interconnected, both floors are in the same vlan, unique IP addresses but unfortunately there are a few duplicate hostnames. Can I have a centralized SSR solution in this scenario?

This link does not shed much light on this issue. My problem is that due to duplicate name issues, the server & computer browser service does not come up on duplicate host names. Will this cause the backup to fail?
