vietlv6789

I downloaded and installed Symantec System Recovery 2013 (SSR2013) in my SONY VAIO SVE Laptop
My VAIO info is OK for SSR2013 to operate:
    - Windows 8 64bit
    - Intel core i5
    - RAM 4G, 500G Hard disk GPT, NTFS file system

1. CANNOT DETETCT AL HIDDEN PARTTION?
SSR2013 cannot detect SONY VAIO full list of partitions, pls see att'd file

SONYSYS, and one other partitions could not be found in SSR2013 list !!!

Pls see below images for more details:

SSR 2013 could not detect some hidden Parttions:
http://data.vietforward.com/UploadedFiles/2013/T5/VietForward.Com--srs-partition.png

Full list of Partions be deteced by other Softwares:
http://data.vietforward.com/UploadedFiles/2013/T5/VietForward.Com--paragon-partition.png

http://data.vietforward.com/UploadedFiles/2013/T5/VietForward.Com--minitool-partition-wizard.png

2. MISSING FUNCTIONS???
After used SSR2013 12 hours, i must tell you that  CANNOT found any Incremental Backup, Differencial Backup functions as you intro due  at: http://www.symantec.com/connect/forums/norton-ghost-users-welcome-symantec-system-recovery

3. CANNOT BOOT FROM UEFI MODE???
Another side, Custom Recovery USB Boot SSR2013 (which created by SSR 2013) CANNOT boot in UEFI Mode

I retry boot in Legacy boot mode, USB SSR2013 boot successed.
I choose a backup file that i did before with SSR2013, and SSR2013 said It's could not to restore this backup file (which has been made by SSRD 2013 in Windows 8 mode)  due to it was made with UEFI while i boot in based boot mode

I am very amaze with this case

Any explain for it???

Hope to hearing from you soonest

Hi Chris,

Thanks ror yr reply, but pls be aware that ALL of similar softwares, such as: Paragon Backup & Recovery, Acitve Image Disk, True image 2013, ... can detect USB, External HDD. Why SRS 2013 cannot do?

And I am using Windows 8 version, It's cannot install the hotfix you give by link: http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH143704:

Quote from this link:

Prerequisites

To apply this hotfix, you must be running one of the following operating systems:

  • Windows 7
  • Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1)
  • Windows Server 2008 R2
  • Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 (SP1)

So do these drives have 4KB sector size?

If yes, these are currently unsupported with SSR 2013. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. This topic is currently under discussion internally to see when support for these can be added into the product.

No, Chris,

As this article: http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH143704

Description: SSR does not detect external hard disk of size > 3TB as a source drive for the backup

My USB volume is 4G only, but SSR 2013 still cannot detect!!!

2. MISSING FUNCTIONS???
After used SSR2013 12 hours, i must tell you that  CANNOT found any Incremental Backup, Differencial

3. CANNOT BOOT FROM UEFI MODE???
Another side, Custom Recovery USB Boot SSR2013 (which created by SSR 2013) CANNOT boot in UEFI Mode

Tks Chris again for yr support and Hope that technical supporters be added asap to solve this problem

OK, so if the USB drive is only 4GB it is unlikely to be configured with 4KB sector size. However, you can verify this using the steps listed in that article.

Can you elaborate more about point number 2 please.

Chris, Please open SSR 2013 at yr computer, and i sure that you cannot find INCREMENTAL or DIFFERENTIAL BACK UP on SSR 2013

There is no such thing as differential backups with SSR - never has been.

If you create a recovery point set backup (default), the first backup will be a full and then it should run incrementals until the next scheduled full.

Are you saying ALL backups are fulls?

When i redo backup for the backedup drive before, SSR ask me: Want to overwrite it?

It's meaning that SSR 2013 create new full backup image?

Creating incremental backups is set up when the backup job is created. If you created a backup job as a full backup, that job will always be a full backup. You would need to setup a separate incremental backup.

Tks grantsd, i will retry as it

As far as the UEFI mode boot problem goes. Are you using the 64 Bit SRD? Only the 64 Bit SRD will boot in UEFI mode and only SSR 2013.

For your missing partitions check out this KB article: http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH68773

Hope this helps...

This should work. Personally speaking I don't have access to a UEFI machine to test this. Can you open a support case for this issue so it can be investigated further.
