System Recovery hangs at Snapping volumes

BonzeUK

System Recovery 2013 R2 SP3 (11.1.3.55088) on a clean install of Windows 10 Pro 64-bit

I'm backing up to an external hardrive connected by USB3

9 times out of 10 the backup hangs at the message 'Snapping volumes', and there doesn't seem to be a way to cancel it nicely.

I don't see any error message.

I was also getting the same now and again on Windows 8.1, but it nows seems more frequent.

Any suggestions

In case you were not aware, Windows 10 is not officially supported yet:

http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH231698

You may want to check the Windows event logs (system and application) for errors. If you reboot the machine, does the backup work after the reboot? If yes, I suspect some sort of VSS related issue here.

But I have all the latest patches etc. installed and it accepts my licence. The Event log shows a message for Microsoft-Windows-CAPI2 with an event id of 513. Details: AddLegacyDriverFiles: Unable to back up image of binary Microsoft Link-Layer Discovery Protocol. System Error: Access is denied. Digging around on various sites shows that this is possibly a security issue and I have been changing ownership of a couple of Windows folders and their contents And also changing the permissions to full for them For now the backups are running OK, but I'm still getting the message in the Event log, so I'm not sure whether I fixed it completely After reboot, the backups are still working. (so far)
