System recovery - disc full, remove old ones

I'm using Symantec System Revocery and writing to an external HD.  The external HD has filled up.  How can I make space to store more backups?  (I can't find a way.)

I will request you to open the SSR console -> Tools -> Manage Backup Destination -> You will see recovery points.

Select the older set of recovery points and click on delete

This will delete the recovery points from the destination and create space.

Also for future refer : http://www.symantec.com/docs/HOWTO21386 and make changes accordingly.

Thanks.  There are two problems with that link.  First, a minor onw - after selecting "manage backup destination", you have to select "settings" to get to the next screen.  That isn't in the instructions.

Second, on the "manage backup destination" screen, the check box "limit file versions ... " and the number are both grayed out so the check box can't be checked and the number can't be changed.
