So you mean; boot off the Linux-based SRD, then take a backup? I think this is possible, yes.

What do you mean by 're-read the new disk' ??

Yes boot on SRD and make a image file and restore to new disk.

The version on  SystemRecoveryDisk?, can I use the version 20013R2 for windows to boot on?

Yes, you can do a backup using the SRD (known as a 'cold' backup).

You cannot use the Windows version though. You will need to create a Linux recovery disk - see Page 36 of the User Guide for more information: http://www.veritas.com/docs/000004206
