The sv2i file

I back up to a primary internal hard drive for my 1st backup, and then to two off site external hard drives.  I noticed that with the primary backup, there is a sv2i file that is always present, but it does not copy over to the off site external drives.  It is my understanding the the sv2i file is for indexing or identification of specific files or drives if you have to do a recovery.  Should this file not be automatically copied to the off site disks?  Or do I not understand the function of the sv2i file?

Thanks for any help or suggestions.

I don't know why this message posted as a duplicate, I only pressed enter once. Sorry about it though.

Product development is aware of this and is looking into what can be done. The system index file can be use both in the restore/conversion process as well as in the use of the Granular Restore option for Exchange and SharePoint item recovery. In backups it is one of the key files in keeping track what iteration a backup job is to perform.
