Is Windows 2016 supported by SSR 2013 R2 SP6? If not, when will it be supported?

No, not supported at the moment (see SCL: http://www.veritas.com/docs/000004208).

Support will be added when the next version of System Recovery is released (currently scheduled for November).

Hope this helps.

I've heard that Windows Server 2016 support will be in "Veritas Backup and Recovery"  12.0 scheduled for a January 2017 (I assume). Is this true and how accurate is the January time frame?

@PatPatriot55

Not quite right..

Next version (called 'VSR 16') is being released next week. More details to follow on this site ..

Hello,

As there is no install block and as I had not yet seen this post, I have installed Server 2016 with the essentials role and SSR 2013 R2. It installs without any issue and seems to perform a backup fine.

I have used the recovery point browser to peer into the file and it all looks to be there. I am now trying a recovery to dissimilar hardware.

What can I expect to not work ? I ask as the server has already been deployed remotely and the next opportunity Ihave to upgrade to VSR 16 will be some months away.

Thanks

@BTP

What can you expect not to work? That is an impossible question to answer to be honest as that version of System Recovery was never tested with Windows 2016.

Bottom line is that you cannot get any support for using 2013 R2 with Windows 2016 should you encounter any problems.

Thanks,

I have successfully recovered Server 2016 as a domain controller, an Exchange server (Exchange 2016) and an RDS server to the same and dissimilar hardware without an issue. I have not yet tried granular recovery nor converting to a virtual machine.

For my purposes, until i can get my hands on that server again, 2013 R2 will be fine. I understand the lack of support and that will need to be my risk for the short time before I can upgrade this server's software.

the hardware recovery to dissimilar reqiured a machine that supports UEFI but other than that, it worked well.

@ges87

We already support Windows 2016 as a managed client with the Management Solution. See the SCL for details:

https://www.veritas.com/support/en_US/article.000114479

I know

I meant for the management server

Not supported yet (we need to wait until Symantec support it for SMP), see here:

http://www.symantec.com/docs/HOWTO125454

http://www.symantec.com/docs/HOWTO9965

any rough timescale for support?

@ges87

I can't answer that I'm afraid. You are probably better off asking that question in the Symantec forums:

https://www.symantec.com/connect/product/management-platform-formerly-known-notification-server

Hope that helps.

ok thanks, I'll try

What about version 8.1 support (that includes support for SQl 2016), will this come with next SP?

This is being planned for the next version of VSR - due towards the end of this year.
