Sure would be nice to have some sort of program go through the forum posts and update referneces to old symantec link and swap in the veritas links, or forward them?

Seems like everytime I seach for an answer, I get an inactive link to a symantec HOWTO doc.

Kind of defeats the purpose of having the old posts...

Hi @AlexMatts

All of the Veritas content was transferred from Symantec Connect.

The links mentioned in old VOX post are no longer available on Symantec Connect.

Example:
In this post I have mentioned another forum discussion:
https://vox.veritas.com/t5/NetBackup/NetBackup-and-Symantec-EndPoint-Protection-AntiVirus-Exclusions...

Link to other forum discussion: https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/netbackup-7-and-anti-virus

Because all NetBackup content was moved to VOX, this link no longer exists on Symantec Connect.

Now, if I replace www-secure.symantec.com with www.veritas.com, I am then redirected to the VOX post:
https://vox.veritas.com/t5/NetBackup/Netbackup-7-and-Anti-virus/m-p/390594

Surely it makes sense that a Lithium administrator can easily script a find and replace within the VOX forums?

About the missing pictures in blogs and articles - They have been moved across. It is just the links that are no longer working. Ryan Kingsland has been able to fix some of them before he left.
I have offered to help but he never told me how it was done.

Surely where there is a will there is a way?

I have moved your post to the VOX Feedback forum where it will hopefully get noticed by the admins -
@JustineVelcich, @TylerWelch,  @AlexMatts

I have in the past that broken links be fixed, but that discussion is now getting ignored...

Hello, @Genericus and @Marianne –

We've read through your posts, and appreciate your concerns regarding broken links in dated Forum posts.

Migrating Symantec Forum content and making it accessible to Veritas customers, employees, and partners is important to those of us at Veritas, to ensure continuity in information and user experience, though Veritas is unable to modify Symantec content, including links; old posts are owned and managed by Symantec.

I realize this response does not provide a clear solution to the issue, but I hope it offers clarity.

What she said!

for i in "list of symantec link in forum post"

do

replace symantec with veritas

done

NetBackup 9.1.0.1 on Solaris 11, writing to Data Domain 9800 7.7.4.0
duplicating via SLP to LTO5 & LTO8 in SL8500 via ACSLS

i found another 404

just replacing www.symantec.com with www.veritas.com didn't help.

but if the TN are still there, a symbolic link would be a lot faster to update them.

My suggestion to replace www-secure.symantec.com with www.veritas.com will ONLY work for forum posts, not Technotes.

The only way to find the relevant Veritas URL is to perform a search in the veritas support site.

Veritas has also changed the entire site, so, bookmarked TNs that were still working a week or so ago is also giving error 404.

Example:

About decommissioning a media server

https://www.veritas.com/support/en_US/article.000120579.html
now produces the lovely 404 error.

Using the search function in https://www.veritas.com/content/support/en_US.html I managed to find this:

About decommissioning a media server : Veritas NetBackup™ Administrator's Guide, Volume I : 8.0

2017-07-14 - About decommissioning a media server You can use the NetBackup nbdecommission to decommission a media server. The command launches a...

Hello, @manatee –

As @Marianne noted, we are in the process of refining the digital experience of Veritas.com and VOX, to improve users' ability to seek and find the information they need. This said, sometimes we encounter hiccups!

Could you provide additional details on the matter for which you're seeking clarity? I would welcome doing research on my end to find you the right resources within the VOX community and/or Technotes.

I hope this message finds you both well.

Hi @AlexMatts

Nothing seems to be working today.

Google search for totally valid Netbackup options finds a number of relevant topics and URLs, e.g:

About Fibre Channel supported features on NetBackup Appliance
https://www.veritas.com/support/en_US/article.000115291

Configuring Fibre Transport for optimized duplication and Auto Image ...
https://www.veritas.com/support/en_US/article.000117113

Borh these URLs give the 404 error.

Searching for these topics in the Search option brings up a whole lot of JUNK.
Nothing remotely relevant.

I have used the Feedback button with this info. Let's see what the response is....

Hello, @Marianne –

As I suspect you know, Google routinely crawls online entitities, like Veritas, to ensure Google Search captures and presents the latest and greatest content each online organization has to offer. Additionally, the company routinely pushes updates to its algorithms to modify its standard for ranking and subsequently presenting pages.

This, coupled with our ongoing efforts to improve Veritas.com and VOX, and there is likely to be periods of time where results via Google Search are varied.

This said, I will share your message with the VOX team and note your interest in improving the searchability of Veritas content. I'll update you upon this thread following our conversation.

Thank you for expressing your interest in improving the overall experience of VOX.

Thanks @AlexMatts

The issue is not really with VOX and I totally understand the Google cache issue. This has happened previously with Veritas Technotes being moved. (Heaven knows why they keep on doing it... it certainly does NOT ensure improved user experience... )
A subsequent search of the Veritas Support site using the exact same text used to produce a list of the new URLs.

My real issue is with the search engine of the Veritas Support site that seems to be completely useless.

Let's see what the reaction is to my 'Feedback' submission...

I appreciate your willingness to pass this on.

Kindest regards

Hello, @Marianne –

Following conversations with our internal partners, I want to provide a fuller response in regard to your experience accessing support documentation through the Veritas Support site and VOX.

There are two main causes of the problem you are experiencing:

The majority of the "How-To" documents on the site before were actually extracts of content from product documentation. Since all documentation is now available in the Document Repository, these How-To documents were redundant. Therefore, the decision was made to not migrate them to the new system. Unfortunately, it was not possible to create redirects for these documents. Therefore, if you search on /Support for the old Article ID, or if you enter a URL with the old Article ID, you will get a 404 error.

We are also having difficulties getting Google to "catch up" with the changes that were made to the content. So Google still thinks those old URLs are valid and presents them to users who search on Google. Clicking on one of these Google results will also lead to a 404.

All of that said, the content is actually available on Support, in the Documentation section. To find it, search for the title of the old Article. This will be the same as the title presented on Google, if you found it that way. In the majority of situations, you will find what you are seeking.

And @kellyromer leading the Veritas Support User Experience Discussion forum may be able to offer additional context on the company's improved, Veritas Support website.

We are pleased by the progress being made by Kelly and his team to provide an exceptional support experience to Veritas customers and partners, and welcome feedback on your personal experience in the VOX Discussion forum.
