Although the upcoming European data regulation GDPR was the prominent topic of the day, other aspects of managing data stored in multiple environments (like on premises, in one or multiple clouds) were also discussed.

The keynotes presented the actual issues regarding data management that many companies are facing these days, and the solutions that Veritas provides to customers and partners to assist in solving these issues were especially revealing.IDC.jpg
Phil Carter from IDC gave advice on how to move forward to cloud business and also warned the audience not to underestimate the challenges and obstacles on the way.

Afterwards, Mike Palmer presented Veritas’ portfolio of solutions in detail. Then to close, multiple breakout sessions to different aspects of data management gave a deeper insight into the matter.

My biggest takeaway from the event was hearing from my peers that most companies are still not aware what GDPR means in detail, and how they can (and should) prepare themselves. This was not entirely surprising, but thankfully there are many resources available to help make sense of it all.

Here are a few valuable blog posts on the topic of GDPR:

Failure to prepare is preparation for failure for GDPR
GDPR Training Essential for Compliance

All in all, it was productive and infomative day in Mainz, and I'm looking foward to participating in the next Vision event!
