In the final scene of the 1970 film “Tora! Tora! Tora!”, Japanese Naval Marshal General Isoroku Yamamoto, is portrayed saying, “I fear all we have done is to awaken a sleeping giant and fill him with a terrible resolve,” referring to the 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor by forces of Imperial Japan.[1]
And while there is no written evidence that he actually said these exact words, the quote’s sentiment is what’s important.
In the case of the many would-be disruptors of the data storage, and backup & recovery spaces, the same sentiment remains true – only this time, the sleeping giant is Veritas.
Just about every start-up out there currently going after these spaces can trace their roots back to Veritas in one way or another. Veritas has dominated the backup & recovery space for decades. Similarly, Veritas was delivering software-defined storage solutions before the term SDS was even coined.
From the years of 2005 to 2015 however, Veritas was absorbed into the Symantec portfolio of acquired companies – this made sense on paper, but in practice…well, that’s another story. Suffice it to say that Veritas became the sleeping giant during this time.
But that’s over.
Since the separation from Symantec, the Veritas business has allowed the company to begin acting on this new “terrible resolve” … and more importantly, without constraints. The number of new data storage and protection products released into the market has already surpassed the number of releases made through the entire 10 years under the Symantec umbrella.
And we’re about to open the proverbial kimono and show you what’s been cooking. On April 6th, Veritas will host Stephen Foskett (@SFoskett) and the rest of the Tech Field Day team, along with 12 distinguished delegates (see below) for Cloud Field Day 3 to take them through a few of the storage and cloud data protection innovations we’ve been working on, and why our approach is the best on the market.
Our 12 distinguished delegates:
For our delegates, customers, partners, and competitors, you’ll learn:
A note from Veritas:
Sincerely,
The sleeping giant
