Question: Is Your Organization Running a Multi-Cloud Environment?
A: No, we just deploy servers using AWS.
B: Yes, we use AWS, Dropbox, Office 365, Salesforce, and other cloud apps.
C: What’s a multi-cloud?
Correct answer: B
If you answered A, don’t worry, you’re not alone (and if you answered C, read on because we’ll discuss more about multi-cloud in this article). When we talk to customers and ask them if they’re multi-cloud, we’re often told “No, we just use AWS.” But the story is usually much broader, because the vast majority of enterprises are also using cloud apps like Office 365, Dropbox, or Gmail − they just don’t think of themselves as having a multi-cloud environment.
In Episode 01: “Protecting Your Cloud Environments”, I interview Alberto Sigismondi, Product Manager at Veritas, about the challenges enterprises face when protecting their data in a multi-cloud environment. We discuss a common, but incorrect, assumption that many IT professionals make when working with cloud vendors: assuming the vendor is 100% responsible for protecting their data.
The frank truth is that IT is still responsible for protecting their organization’s data that lives in the cloud, but they’re no longer 100% in control of that data.
That paradox raises some interesting questions:
If you choose to use the data protection tools supplied by each of your cloud vendors, such as to create snapshot-based backups, you’re placing a huge burden on your IT team to learn those tools and manage a multitude of snapshots across different cloud platforms. Those tasks can quickly become overwhelming and unwieldy and compromise your data protection efforts.
Alberto explains that a better approach, which helps you gain back control, is to use a single solution, such as Veritas CloudPoint, that works across major cloud platforms like AWS, GCP, and Azure to streamline data management.
Veritas offers a new approach to data protection across complex cloud environments.
CloudPoint is an innovative solution for snapshot-based backup for applications and workloads in the multi-cloud. It also provides a consistent recovery experience including storage erase. CloudPoint enables data protection using the right method to protect cloud apps in their native environments including private, public, and hybrid clouds as well as traditional, on-premise data centers. It has deep integration support for Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, HDS G-Series, and HP 3Par.
CloudPoint is part of Veritas’ 360 Data Management approach that provides protection, availability, and insight everywhere your information lives.
