Deletion of Legal Hold Templates

We need to delete and better manage our Legal Hold Templates.  How can we get rid of Legal Hold Templates that we no longer use and no longer want our Paralegals to have access to?  Can we change the name of an existing Legal Hold Template?

Hi Meredith,

There are several ways to manage your existing Legal Hold Templates.

1.) A Legal Hold Administrator can delete of existing legal hold templates by:

1. login to the UI with the correct permissions
2. Navigate to All Legal Holds
3. Click the desired Legal Hold
4. Depending on the type of notice (System Admin or Custodian) , click the appropriate link to add the notice (Add System Notice or Add Custodian Notice)
5.  Click Delete Template
6. From the drop-down list, select the template to delete
7. Click Delete and confirm

One thing to note is that deleting existing legal hold templates will not automatically delete legal hold notices that were previously created using that template.

2.) If you want to change the name of an existing legal hold template, you should:

1. login to the UI with the correct permissions
2. Navigate to All Legal Holds
3. Click the desired Legal Hold
4. Depending on the type of notice (System Admin or Custodian) , click the appropriate link to add the notice (Add System Notice or Add Custodian Notice)
5.  Sellect the legal hold template with the name you want to change.

6. From the drop-down list, select the template
7. Click "Save as Template" and enter the new name for the template

8. The template is saved with the new name.

9. To delete the template with the old name, Create a new notice and delete the template with the old name (see the steps I listed above for how to delete a template).

Not the cleanest way to delete a template but it can be done.

On another note, In the new version of eDiscovery Platform, there are additional ways to manage legal holds so that you can manage access to specific types of holds (ie. HR, Employment, Litigation etc) by Access Group. These changes will help enhance your existing Legal Hold process.

If you have any questions let me know.
