Must the Backup Exec 2010 R2 media server be installed directly on a VM to make HotAdd work?

Im using Bexec 2010, with Backup to a NAS (Disk folder).
I have setup a backup plan where I want to keep data in a month before it is overwritten again.
I have setup weekly full backups (Friday 1-2-3-4) and daily incrementals.
So far so good...

Thanx for reply. I do have s SQL lisence. I have created a backup job to backup Backup Exec 2010 SQL DB. But the SQL data is stored in the .bkf format, so In the event of a disaster how can I get them back when doing a fresh installation?

One more question for the experts. Im trying to create a DeDup folder directly on a NAS, but Backup Exec wont allow this. This is not possible?
Just to add, I guess it then would be a good idea to have a own media set for the weekly full jobs, and a own media set for daily incrementals. Keep the jobs separate?
