The Backup to Disk worked a treat and I accept the logic despite what the IBM tool tells me. I will continue hunting the hardware. Thanks again for the hint.

Added information - I have alread disabled the tape device within BE and then stopped and started the engines and re-enabled the device - with no luck. All the services start correctly. So far the only way I have been able to get the jobs out of a qu...
