Thanks Amol, Thought this might be the case (or something similar) after checking the Netbackup NDMP logs and saw it trying to connect to the master server on port 10000. Successfully completed a restore back to the filer.

OK. I installed the IBM diagnostic tools to see if that came back with anything. Apparently the drive need cleaning and didn't let any tapes be mounted until it was cleaned :| Thanks all.

So it turned out it was a selection from the backup server itself rather than a remote server. Retarted Backup Exec and took a successful backup. Thanks all.
