It does persist.Its happends on a 2nd server now.There is something in common.On each drive that this problem occurs, there is less than 15% free disk space.Is there a requirement of over 15% free space for OFO to work? (same as MS Disk Defragmenter)...

Well got it going.Had to add in beserver.exe & benetns.exe into the AV exclusions along with bengine.exe.I am using McAfee Virus Scan along with EPO.Thanks for all your suggestionsGilly

There is no Firewall involved Keith.Both SMTP server and Backup server reside on local lan.
