Also if a veritas/symantec driver is available, is there anyway to force BE to use the driver, or to manually install it via device manager in windows? Thanks!

Unless any data was written to the tape, you would unfortunately not be able to tell if someone had read the media.

Just to clarify, the actual backup does seem to complete without errors. The problem occurs when the verify phase starts, then we get the CRC error.
