I need some knowledge: I'm using Netbackup 7.5.0.3 on Windows Server 2008 with a master and 2 media servers that are my VMWare backup hosts. I. - Backing up VM's with attached RDM disk: I've read the VMWare and snapshot client documentation but I'm still a little unclear about how to backup RDM (raw device mapped) disk. From what I read, I have 2 options: 1. - Install Netbackup client within the VM and backup the VM as I would a physical server. (not preferred.) 2. - Create an alternate backup client that has same OS and patch rev (or higher) that has access to the RDM to utilize offhost snapshot backups. My questions are: a. - Why can't I backup the RDM disk with a VMWare policy? b. - Can I backup the OS filesystem with a VMWare policy and the RDM disk with an alternate client so I can utilize offhost snapshots? c. Are there any differences if the RDM disk is physical or virtual?Solved6.3KViews1like5CommentsError 156 and 4207
Hi I am encountering an error in Netbackup with the VmWare snapshot. Had a peak and i find 2 errors, 156 which is generally an error getting the snapshot, and the another error which says the following: Critical bpbrm (pid=35437) from client SVVTPOBBE03: FTL - cannot open /usr/openv/netbackup/online_util/fi_cntl/bpfis.fim.SVVTPOBBE03_1436968819.1.0 What i dont understand is that this client is a Windows 2008 server, why is it looking up for the state file in /usr/openv...... location? Sins this client is a windows server, it should have been looking for this state file in something similar to C:/programfiles........ location. Will appreciate help here. Hi All, I'm just looking for some clarification on configuring VMWare backups using the agent. My master is running 7.6.1.1 as are our 5230 Appliances and vSphere is 5.5 so support is not an issue. I've set aside two ports on each appliance for vmware backups so I know where I want to zone to on that end but what else do I zone to ? Do I need to zone in the ESX servers or just the WWN's of the storage arrays ? The VMWare admin guide states the following but isn't very clear. "To use the SAN transport type, set up the datastore on Fibre Channel or iSCSI. In this configuration, the VMware backup host must be able to access the datastore over the SAN." The ESX boxes are already san connected. We tested the agent a few years ago to VTL with a Windows Off-Host server and found it to be slower than just sending it across the LAN but need and want to test it again especially with the 5230's now bedded in. Thanks in advance.Solved3.7KViews4likes11CommentsVM restore without VC (Virtual Center)
Hi, In our environment VM backups are running based on VIP query rule and the Vcenter has been added as a Virtual Machine server in the credentials tab in NBU set-up (ESX credentials were not added) Note: VCenterserver is a VM (Virtual Machine) So, if my VCenter server gets crashed - if i want to restore that VCenter server from (VC)VM backup, then how could i do it? My VC is down, is it possible to restore the VM without VC? I searched in Symantec sites - it seems there is a possibility of restoring the VM directly to ESX without VC., can you please tell me what are the steps to do that restore directly to ESX?Solved3.7KViews1like3Comments
