My customer is using Symantec Backup Exec System Recovery V8.0.4 and the Server which was being used as the Central Management node has died. They also do not have the origianl storage node the centrally managed backup jobs were using. They will upgrade soon and in the mean time I have createdlocal Backup Jobs on the nodes to keep them regularly backing up. I want todelete, or at least disable, allof the old backup jobs. When I try to do this the BESR tells me "The backups job is controlled by a central management system. Contact your system administrator." I found Arcticle TECH67818 at http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH67818and I can find some of the files mention in Step 3 (.PQJ and sv2i) but not the RPAM Folder in Step 4 or the RPAMfile in Step 5. IsTECH67818 the best way to resolve the issue? I can provide Screenshots, etc if necessary. Regards Mike735Views0likes2CommentsP2V Windows 2000 machine with SCSI drive to Hyper-V
I typically use Symantec System Recovery to do P2V of older machines and had a very high success rate, but this one is getting the best of me. Clone/white box Windows 2000 SP4 1GB RAM Symbios SCSI adapter Single 36GB drive - there are bad sectors Only reason I need to keep the machine is for the old security controller software - vendor is MIA When I use SSR 8.5.7 I get what seems to be a good image, but the resulting VM won't start. It says "Inaccessible boot device". I thought SSR put in the correct drivers, but I think I have always done IDE drives in the past which might be more forgiving. Tried using SSR P2V with and without the mini setup, both yield the "Inaccessible boot device". Is there something else I can use to do a P2V? Or maybe something else I can do with SSR? I am certainly open to suggestions as I want to get rid of this machine ASAP.695Views0likes1CommentBESR 8.5 and Win 7 Ultimate Bitlocker
I have recently install BESR 8.5 on Win 7 Ultimate. The machine is a laptop and has bitlocker enabled. I keep getting the following errors whenever I attempt a backup: EC8F17B7: Cannot create recovery points EC8F03EA: Cannot create a virtual volume image of the selected drive. E0BB0147: the operation 'Snap Volume' is not currently enabled for this Volume. Error E0BB0147: The operation '%1' is not currently enabled for this %2. I have run FIXINSTALL.BAT and rebooted, no effect I have uninstalled, rebooted and reinstalled, rebooted, no effect I have manually installed and registered the SymSnap service, made sure it's started, no effect. I have other machines running bitlocker that are backing up fine. Any ideas?498Views0likes2CommentsBack to managing backups
It has been a long time since I was on here. Everything has been working ok with minumum maintenance being done. I have been away for awhile and no one has done much maintenance on this system or kept it up. So I am going to start witht the basics, and try to get this system back to a good place We are using BESR 8.5.5 and Management control 8.5.5. Everything has been rocking along pretty good until last week. We have up graded 30out of about 50 pc's to Windows 7 since last yearand they are backing up on schedule. However, When I try to load it on some new systems, the installation fails dueto looking for a file that doesn't exist and can't delete it 2014-10-27 09:40:53 [SYSER] [CleanupTempFiles ] - Failed to delete the file: C:\PROGRA~2\Symantec\Backup Exec System Recovery Manager\EasyInstaller\BootStrap.exe LastError 2: The system cannot find the file specified Questions: Are my windows 7 backups good ( I have restored only one and it went well) Is the loading problem specific to a version of W7? or a particular piece of hardware. So far this is first encounter with this . But I have loaded it on what is supposed to be the same hardware and software. (It's 2IBA America recorders and client) One works and one doesn't. I'm pretty sure your going to say I need an upgrade.:-) That is in the plan to do. I just want to know if there is a way around this error and are my W7 backups good ? Any advice is welcome. I was away from tis for a couple of years and Don't know what to do or versions etc. ThanksSolved907Views0likes4CommentsBESR proof of restore - logs
dear all, its been a while since I last looked into this logs and cannot recall where and what to look for. I need to verify if a system has been restored from a BESR backup for auditing purpose. 1- what log file can I see that the system has been restored? (C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symantec\Backup Exec System Recovery\Logs) 2- what the VSNAP.IDX time stamp tells you regarding restore or backup? 3- if a single file has been restored via the Symantec Recovery Point Browser, would there be any log that states this behaviour? thank you for your help Eduardo669Views0likes4CommentsOutdated Tomcat Versions in BESR
We are still using BESR on some older hardware, where SSR seems to be a bit too demanding. As it turned out recently, our BESR ServerSoftware (8.5.7.36915) incorporates Apache Tomcat version 5.5.9, which became outdated in 2012. This old version of Tomcat apparently became a security issue and itis a company policy to have it replaced by a newer version (at least version 7.0). The question is now, is there a newer version of BESR that also incorporates Tomcat of at least version 7.0? Can Tomcat easily be replaced within an existing BESR environment?573Views0likes2CommentsSystem Recovery formely BESR installation error
Hello, we are trying to install BESR 8.5.1 on windows server 2008 R2 (x64) and everytime we've got the error : "An error occured during the installation of assembly component {63E949F6-03BC-5C40-A01F-C8B3B9A1E18E}. HRESULT: 0x800736FD" Checking the windows event viewer i could noticed the following warning: Log Name: Application Source: ApplicationExperienceInfraastructure EventID: 1 Level: Warning "The application (Backup Exec System Recovery, from vendor Symantec) has the following problem: backup Exec System Recovery is incompatible with this versions of wndows. For more information, contact sysmantec." I did try to install it on a windows server 2012 (x64) and did not encounter any issue during the installation process nor the configuration. Would you help me figuring out why it isn't installing on my Windows Server 2008 R2 (x64) ? Thanks again for your help. We have a list of computers which we backup to the same target share in BESR. BESR then automatically creates a subfolder for every computer name. But once in a while a new individual target is being automatically created in the target list and asks for credentials. We can type in the necessary credentials and the backups work fine again. The problem is we do not whant an individual target for every computer in the target list. When we remove the subfolder name for the computer from the newly created backup target, the client computer is being automatically deleted from the computer list. How can we work with one target only and without deleting the clients from the computer list?1.2KViews0likes8Comments
